BRIDGET SAVILLE

Bridget Saville is an emerging artist and designer based on Kaurna Country (Tarndanya/Adelaide Plains). Since 2021, she has focused on ceramics, developing her practice with clay as her primary medium. Currently, she is part of the Ceramic Associate Program at JamFactory, a prestigious art and design centre in Adelaide.

Her body of work ranges from functional designs to sculptural pieces, all grounded in strong conceptual foundations. Saville's interest in a concept-driven approach to making was sparked during her studies for a Bachelor of Interior Design at RMIT University, where she graduated with first-class honours in 2020. Her academic journey refined her research skills and her ability to explore cultural and ontological connections.

Saville seeks to investigate the responsive qualities of clay through her practice. She is drawn to clay as a material for its transmutability, taking interest in the dynamic nature of working with clay and exploring the unique forms that emerge through process.
Proficient in both wheel throwing and hand building techniques, she also enjoys developing tools and jigs to further test and stretch the limits of the material. Her most recent works explore extruded forms that take inspiration from architecture, the physicality of the human body and spontaneous movement that involves the use of gravity. This process allows intuition and unpredictability to collide, resulting in unique and expressive forms.
