‘Of Which We Are Made’ is a conceptual interpretation of evolving culture and the modern dining table. Composed of 35 ceramic vessels that sit atop a simple yet striking table, the work brings together the ancient craft of pottery and the contemporary necessity for inexpensive flatpack furniture.
The rich red of the vessels comes from South Australian terracotta - a direct expression of the earth we live, converse and break bread on. Unglazed, they honour the millennia old craft of vessel making that spans the globe. The lack of adornment and clean lines brings them into the modern era, whilst the full table-top expresses the cultural importance of ritual, generosity and plenitude.
Nested together the vessels can be stacked and arranged in multiple ways, providing a place for dialogue and shared experience. Collectively the vessels aim to convey the hospitality and generosity of the human spirit, of which we are made.
